Jade Falconer's Back To The Past

When Noah was accepted to take part in an historical reality show, it was a dream come true; to live in the past for a little while, immerse himself in another time. He had no idea he would be randomly chosen as one of the richest men in the settlement. Nor did he have any idea that he would find a kindred spirit, in more ways than one. Ethan was assigned to be one of Noah's servants, and it wasn't long before they discovered their shared love of history, and other things. Finding out more about each other was a challenge with cameras documenting their every move. But where there's a will, there will always be a way...

Historical recreation creates the setting for new lust and romance between a gay history buff and a bisexual history professor.

Historical recreation becomes ìlarger than lifeî and abundantly more exciting for Noah, whose fascination with the past began during a childhood excursion to restored Colonial Williamsburg. Noah expects excitement purely from the temporary "reliving" of history, and is ecstatic to discover heís been chosen to be a landowner with both a manservant and a female servant. Then he discovers who his manservant is to be, hunk Ethan, and a new dimension opens for Nathan

A public television documentary, the historical recreation has drawn both Noah, the ìhistory nerd,î and Ethan, an actual professor of the subject on sabbatical. Ethan is admittedly bisexual, but his only ìrelationshipsî have been with girlfriends. Now he finds himself smitten with the winsome Noah, and very much wants to form a solid relationship. While Noah, who has outed himself to Ethan as gay, is repressing his sexual interest, Ethan considers how best to initiate the situation, again something heís never had to do

Back to the Past is a fascinating look into a time period none of us remember, with good detailed background as a backdrop to the building sexual tension between Noah and Ethan. The characters are well done and we are given exposure to their backgrounds and personalities. Ms. Falconer maintains an excellent tension between the growing interest of the two men in continuing a relationship beyond the recreation, and in the historical setting itself. The characters are realistic and three-dimensional and easily elicit readersí empathy.

Back to the Past is a sweet and easy read that I enjoyed very much. Noah is cute and adorable and Ethan is incredibly sweet. They develop a loving relationship fairly quickly, but I guess it happens that way when you meet your soul mate. For readers looking for something light, sweet and all around loving Back to the Past is the book for you.

It's a dream come true for historical buff Noah when he is chosen to participate in a reenactment of a settlement village being taped for public television. As the "wealthy landowner" of the village, Noah gets to live in the grandest house and has two servants - a maid and a manservant - at his beck and call. But the thrill of living in the "past" soon pales compare to the thrill of working beside his "manservant" Ethan. Noah is smitten and soon finds out that Ethan feels the same, but with cameras following their every move, they'll have to show some of their forefather's tenacity and ingenuity to find ways to be together. Very likeable characters and an intriguing setting offset the occasionally heavy prose in this hot little nibble.
